Glenn Layton Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Northeast Florida building industry has lost one of its most respected leaders, mentors, and advocates with the passing of Glenn Layton.

As the founder of Glenn Layton Homes, Glenn built a reputation rooted in integrity, craftsmanship, and genuine care for people. He believed that building a home was about more than bricks and mortar; it was about creating a place where families could build their lives and memories. His clients became friends, his colleagues became family, and his impact extended far beyond the homes he built.

Glenn's commitment to our industry was equally remarkable. Serving as NEFBA President in 2009 and later receiving both the Arnold Tritt Legacy Award and NEFBA's Lifetime Achievement Award, he dedicated countless hours to advancing the building industry, mentoring future leaders, and strengthening our association. He led by example, was always willing to share his knowledge, offer encouragement, and lend a helping hand. His influence extended beyond Northeast Florida, earning national recognition as the builder of the HGTV Smart Home 2013.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of North Florida and a Florida Certified General Contractor for more than four decades, Glenn was a builder in every sense of the word. His leadership, generosity, and passion for the industry helped shape the Northeast Florida building community we know today.

Following a courageous six-year battle with Younger-onset Alzheimer's disease, Glenn passed away peacefully on May 31, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Eleven22 San Pablo Campus. A reception will immediately follow at The Yards inside TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, a place Glenn loved. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, Glenn's legacy may be honored through a contribution to the NEFBA Charitable Foundation in support of the Glenn Layton Memorial Scholarship Fund. Established as the inaugural award of the NEFBA Legacy Memorial Scholarship Program, the scholarship recognizes students who share Glenn's commitment to craftsmanship, integrity, and building something that lasts.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Layton family, the Glenn Layton Homes team, and the many friends, colleagues, and industry professionals whose lives were enriched by Glenn's leadership, generosity, and friendship. His legacy will continue to inspire our industry for generations to come.
